PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

identify and name harmful insects in our environment.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify harmful Insects at home.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Chart or sample of useful insects

2. Insect nets

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Take the pupils to the school farm or nearest farm for the pupils to identify the harmful insects.

Pupil’s Activities – Termites, caterpillar, grasshopper, etc.

Teacher’s remarks – Comments and give a great cheer for active participation. Note the board, all harmful insects identified.

 

MEANING OF HARMFUL FARM INSECTS

Harmful Farm Insects are insects that are harmful to crops and animals, even the people.

 

 

They are also known farmer’s enemies because they eat up crops, infect and transmit diseases to crops, animals and people.

 

HARMFUL FARM INSECTS AND CROPS/SEEDS AFFECTED 

1. Weevil and Beetle

Affected crops – beans

 

2. Grasshopper, caterpillar and locust

Affected – maize, vegetables, etc.

 

3. Tsetse fly and mosquito

Affected – The farmers and farm animals.

 

4. Housefly

Affected crops – The farmer’s food

 

5. Termite

Affected crops – crops and farm tools.

 

6. Locust

Affected crops – The crop leaves.

 

LESSON 2 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT 

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Takes pupils to identify and name harmful insects in our environment.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Identify and name harmful insects in our environment.

3. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

4. Assignment – Find out damages caused by harmful insects.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
