FOR and SINCE are frequently used with the past perfect tense.

 

PRESENT PERFECT WITH “SINCE”

SINCE is used with perfect tense.

We use since to talk about a specific point in past time, or a time when the action started. For examples,

 

 

Since + a point in past time

  • since this morning/afternoon/evening
  • since last week/month/year
  • since yesterday
  • since I was a boy
  • since Monday/Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday/Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • since ____ o’clock

 

 

EXPRESS CORRECT USE OF PRESENT PERFECT WITH “SINCE”

1. I have been awake since 8 o’clock.

2. Lunch has been ready since 2 hours ago.

3. He has lived here since 2012.

4. We have taught at this school since last year.

 

 

5. They have been at Lagos since last month.

6. He has worked here since 2020.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Explains the correct use of present perfect with “since” and “for”.

Pupil’s Activities – Correctly use present perfect with “since”, following teacher’s examples.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board with some exercises.
