PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of weight.

2. determine the heavier and lighter objects with/out of weighing balance.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can differentiate between lighter and heavier objects.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of weight of objects with different sizes.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

ACTIVE 1 – 

Teacher’s Activities – Display two (2) objects of similar weight for the children to determine the lighter and heavier among the two objects.

Pupil’s Activities – Heavy or light as mentioned by the children.

Teacher’s remark – Correct, one of the objects is heavy and the other is light. Try different objects of similar objects in the same container to explain the meaning of weight. For example, water and sand in a similar containers.

 

MEANING OF WEIGHT

 

 

Weight is how heavy an object is.

 

LESSON 2 – WEIGHT OF SIMILAR OBJECTS

Display five (5) pairs of similar objects with a mark on each object A – H for the children to determine their weight and indicate each pair with heavy or light.

LESSON 3 – WEIGHING USING WEIGHING BALANCE

Repeat the activities in lesson 2 using weighing balance.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Allows the children to determine the weight of similar objects by comparing.

 

 

Pupil’s Activities – Determine the weight of similar objects by comparing.

3. Uses the children’s responses to explain the meaning of weight.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanation to define weight.

4. Provides weighing balance with some objects to weight and mark as heavy or light.

Pupil’s Activities – Weight with weighing balance.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
