PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. understand the meaning of ordinal numbers.

2. place items in positions.

3. place competitors in positions.

The pupils can arrange numbers in order.

2. items or objects of different sizes.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION TO ORDINAL NUMBERS 

Activity 1 – Filling the Bottle Game

Teacher’s Activities – Organise filling the bottle game among the children if the size of the class is not large for them to position the competitors. But in group for a larger class.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the game.

Teacher’s Remark – Good job you all for active participation and comment. Give a prize if available and introduce and explain the meaning of ordinal numbers.

MEANING OF ORDINAL NUMBERS

Ordinal number is the position or place something is such as first position, second position, third position, etc.

It is used to describe a way to arrange a collection of items in order. That’s, one after another.

QUICK EVALUATION 

Place items like book, pencil and ball for the children to illustrate ordinal numbers.

Activity 1 – 50 Metres Boys and Girls 

Teacher’s Activities – Organise 50 metre race game among the children if the size of the class is not large for them to position the competitors. But in group for a larger class.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the game.

Teacher’s Remark – Good job you all for active participation and comment. Give a prize if available and introduce and explain the meaning of ordinal numbers.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Organises games to determine who get first, second and third position among the children.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation in the games.

3. Explains the meaning of ordinal numbers.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the teacher’s explanation.

4. Organises more activities on ordinal numbers.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate in the activities.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
