PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of ascending numbers.

2. arrange numbers up to 20 in descending order.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can rearrange numbers in order.

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Toy numbers 1 – 20.

2. Flash cards number 1 – 20.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON  

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES

Teacher’s Activities – Flash card numbers from 1 – 20 for the children to read and write as you flash each card number.

Pupil’s Activities – Read and write number 1 – 2.

Teacher’s remark – One clap cheer for yourself. Comment and ask the children to identify each of this number – 5 1 3 2 4 6 10 8 7 9 and rearrange. Then, discuss explain the meaning of descending order of numbers.

MEANING OF DESCENDING ORDER NUMBERS

Descending order is the arrangement of numbers or other objects from largest to smallest, heaviest to lightest, thickest to thickest, etc.

HOW IT RELATES TO NUMBER ARRANGEMENTS

When it comes to number, descending order means to arrange numbers from the largest number to the smallest number.

LESSON 2 – ASCENDING ORDER OF NUMBER 20 – 11

Teacher’s Activities – Review descending order of number 10 – 1 with the children.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the lesson review.

Teacher’s remark – Ascending order of numbers means to arrange numbers from the smallest to the largest. Lead the children to arrange in ascending order – 15  11  13  12  14  16  20  18  17  19 by reading 20 – 11.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Presents number cards of 5 – 1 and 10 – 6, guide the children to arrange in descending order.

Pupil’s Activities – Arrange in descending order 5 – 1 and 10 – 6.

3. Discuss the meaning of descending order and how it relates to the numbers.

Pupil’s Activities – Listen and participate in the discussion.

4. Gives simple tasks on arranging 20 – 1 in descending order.

Pupil’s Activities – Perform the task given by the teacher.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
