CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

An introductory paragraph is the first paragraph in a piece of writing. It introduces the topic and prepares the reader for the main ideas in the composition or passage.

FEATURES OF AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH

An introductory paragraph:

1. introduces the main topic

2. attracts the reader’s attention

3. gives a brief idea of what the writing is about

4. usually comes at the beginning of a composition

IMPORTANCE OF AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH

1. It helps readers understand the topic

2. It makes writing interesting

3. It gives direction to the composition

4. It prepares readers for the main discussion

GUIDELINES FOR WRITING AN INTRODUCTORY PARAGRAPH

1. Begin with the main idea.

2. Make the introduction clear and interesting.

3. Use simple and correct sentences.

4. Avoid unnecessary details.

5. Introduce what the composition will discuss.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions about paragraph writing.
