Pupils have previously learned about agriculture as a source of food, employment, and income. This lesson builds on that knowledge by teaching pupils how agricultural products are used as raw materials for industries to produce useful goods.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Many products people use every day are made from materials obtained from farms. For example, cotton is used to make clothes, cocoa is used to make chocolate, rubber is used to make tyres, and timber is used to make furniture.

These basic materials obtained from agriculture are called raw materials. Industries use them to manufacture different goods for people.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about agriculture as a source of raw materials for industries and the importance of agricultural raw materials to industries. 

MEANING OF RAW MATERIALS

Raw materials are natural or basic materials used to produce or manufacture other goods.

Many industries depend on agriculture for the raw materials they need to make different products.

AGRICULTURE AS A SOURCE OF RAW MATERIALS

Agriculture provides raw materials from crops, animals, forests, and other agricultural activities.

SUMMARY
