TOPIC: Air Pollution
Air pollution is the release of harmful substances into the air.
- By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to:
- define pollution and list some air pollutants;
- list common sources of air pollution;
- describe the consequences of air pollution on the people and on the environment; [click]
- describe the roles of the communities, industries and oil exploration in air pollution;
- suggest ways of reducing the risks of pollution.
The pupils are required to already have learned water pollution.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
- Photographs, Charts and Pictures on erosion.
- Hoe, Cutlasses
- Shovel and spade

- Photographs and charts showing polluted water, industries letting, fumes into the air.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
Air pollution occurs when harmful substances are released into the air in form of gasses.
CAUSES OF AIR POLLUTION
- Emission from vehicles and industries.
- Presence of particulate matter
- Presence of poisonous gases
- Agricultural activities
- Burning of fossil fuels
- Dust and dirt
- Household pollution
- Pollution from natural events – dust storm, volcanic eruption.

- To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
- To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

- Pupil’s Activities – Look at pictures of polluted air and describe what they observe.
- Arranges for pupils to visit industrial areas and observe the emission of gases into the air; the release of effluent waste into the air, etc.
