A. Definition

Farm animal diseases are illness unhealthy or abnormal condition in the body of farm animals.

These illnesses result in changes in the well-being of these animals.

 

B. Basic Symptoms 

The symptoms of farm animals diseases of farm animal diseases include –

  • Enlarged udder
  • Sores
  • High fever
  • Blood stained
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of weight
  • Loss of hair
  • Reduced productivity
  • Abortion
  • Death

 

C. Predisposing Factors

  • Uncontrolled mating

Livestock Parasites

1. Definition

Livestock parasites are living organisms that feed inside the animals or on the body of the animals.

 

2. Classes of Farm Animal Parasites 

A. Ectoparasites

Ectoparasites are external parasites such as flies, ticks, lice and mites.

They lived and feed directly on the body of animals.

 

B.. Endoparasites 

Endoparasites are internal parasites such as worms, flukes and protozoa.

They lived and feed inside the body of the animals.

 

3. Effects of Parasites on Farm Animals

  • They make the animals weak.
  • They make the animals to loss of appetite.
  • They reduce the growth rates.
  • They reduce the reproductive rates.
  • They reduce the production of meat, eggs and milk.
  • They damage the hides and fleeces.
  • They fleece weight, fibre diameter and staple strength.
