CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Colour is the surface appearance of objects or shapes within and around us. Colour is available everywhere in our environment. That’s, how a particular object looks. For example – yellow, red, green, black, white and blue are the most common colour in our environment. When a colour is applied to an object or shape, it is called colouring.
MEANING OF COLOURING (WHAT IS COLOURING)
Colouring is the process of applying desirable colours to objects or shapes.
Draw and Colour
LESSON 2 – COLOURING PATTERNS OF BASIC SHAPES
Pattern is a repeated decorative design in a definite order.
To design a pattern, it requires shapes of same or different sizes and colours. A shape is a representation of the pattern. That’s, when one or more shapes is/are used to create patterns.
Designing patterns of basic shapes is the process of creating unique patterns using SHAPES. To design means to draw, create or make something.
CLASS ACTIVITY
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Teacher gives each of the pupil copy of the below pattern to identify basic shapes of the pattern and use two or more colours create desirable colouring.
LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of the class.
3. Teacher displays chart showing basic shapes of different colours for the pupils to identify as red triangle, blue circle, etc.
Pupil’s Activities – The identity and name basic shapes with their colours.
4. Teacher uses the colour shapes and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a class discussion on the meaning of colour and colouring.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in class discussion on the meaning of colour and colouring.
5. Teacher asks pupils to draw five basic shapes and colour each with different colour.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils drawing and colour basic shapes as shown in lesson 1.
6. Teacher displays chart showing simple patterns of basic shapes as shown in lesson 2 and guides the pupils individually to use two or more colours of their choice to create colourful patterns of basic shapes.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils follow the teacher’s guidelines to colour patterns of basic shapes.
7. Teacher also guides pupils use basic shapes to create things other than patterns.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils use basic shapes to make house, Christmas tree, etc.
8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
