TOPIC – CONSEQUENCES OF DRUGS ABUSE ON INDIVIDUALS, FAMILY AND SOCIETY
PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. explain the effects of drug abuse on an individual;
2. list effects of drug abuse on the family;
3. list 3 effects of drug abuse on the society.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
charts showing various drugs.
METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION
A drug is any substance that can change the activities of the body.
Some of these substances can make us sleepy, excited, awake or take away pains.
There are drug that capable of affecting the mind, emotions, and behavior.
Among these drugs are alcohol and tobacco which are used excessively.
Drug use can be normally use or abuse.
CONSEQUENCES OF DRUG USE – ABUSE
INDIVIDUAL
1. Drop out of school
2. Blindness
3. Loss of weight
4. Paralysis – inability to walk
5. Mental sickness
6. Heart attack
7. Death
FAMILY
1. Disunity among the family
2. Cause tension and fighting in the family
3. Separation or divorce between husband and wife
4. Loss of respect
5. Inadequate or lack of fund
6. Drop out of school
7. Unemployment
8. Broken home
SOCIETY
1. Increase in crime rate
2.Bad behavior
3. Truancy
4. Violence

PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Discusses the effects of drug abuse on individuals, family and society;
Pupil’s Activities – Participate in discussing the effects of drug abuse on individuals, family and society.
3. Questions and answers;
Pupil’s Activities – Listen, ask and answer questions.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
