CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Tenses help us to show the time an action takes place.
In this lesson, we will learn how to construct sentences using:
- Past Tense: shows an action that happened in the past.
- Past Perfect Tense: shows an action completed before another past action.
We can change one tense to another.
1. PAST TENSE
The past tense is used to show an action that happened and ended in the past.
Examples:
- I went to school yesterday.
- She ate rice.
- They wrote a letter.
Changing Past Tense to Past Perfect Tense
Structure: had + past participle
Examples:
- went → had gone
- ate → had eaten
- wrote → had written
- saw → had seen
- came → had come
Sentences:
- I went home → I had gone home.
- She ate rice → She had eaten rice.
- They wrote a letter → They had written a letter.
- We saw the man → We had seen the man.
- He came early → He had come early.
2. PAST PERFECT TENSE
The past perfect tense is used to show an action that was completed before another action in the past.
Examples:
- I had gone home
- She had eaten rice
- They had written a letter
Changing Past Perfect Tense to Past Tense
Examples:
- had gone → went
- had eaten → ate
- had written → wrote
- had seen → saw
- had come → came
Sentences:
- I had gone home → I went home.
- She had eaten rice → She ate rice.
- They had written a letter → They wrote a letter.
- We had seen the man → We saw the man.
- He had come early → He came early.
IMPORTANCE OF THE LESSON
