WEEK 4 – FORMS OF DANCE
MEANING OF DANCE
Dance is the movement of the body rhythmically to music or sound to express feelings, ideas, culture, or enjoyment. Dance can be done alone or in a group.
FORMS OF DANCE
1. Traditional Dance – it is performed during festivals, ceremonies, and cultural events. It reflects the culture of a community. For examples: Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa traditional dances.
2. Modern Dance – It is contemporary style of dance. It includes hip-hop, street dance, and freestyle. And common among youths.
3. Creative Dance – It uses imagination and free body movement. It has no fixed steps. It xxpresses ideas and emotions.
4. Social Dance – It performed at social gatherings like weddings and parties.
NOTABLE NIGERIAN DANCERS
1. Kaffy – She is a famous Nigerian dancer and choreographer. She helped popularize modern dance in Nigeria.
2. Poco Lee – He is well known for energetic street dance styles. He promotes Nigerian dance globally.
