WORDS AND MEANINGS

1. Allergy – A reaction by the body to certain foods, substances, or conditions.

2. Cardiac – Related to the heart.

3. Epidemic – A disease that spreads quickly and affects many people in an area.

4. Hormone – A chemical substance in the body that controls growth and activities.

5. Infection – A disease caused by germs entering the body.

6. Potent – Very strong or powerful.

7. Obesity – The condition of being extremely overweight.

8. Squat – To sit low with the knees bent and the body close to the ground.

9. Therapy – Treatment given to help cure or improve a health problem.

10. Vulnerable – Easily harmed, attacked, or  affected.

MAKING SENTENCES WITH EACH WORD

1. Allergy – My brother has an allergy to groundnuts.

2. Cardiac – The doctor treated the patient for a cardiac problem.

3. Epidemic – The epidemic spread quickly across the town.

4. Hormone – Hormones help the body to grow properly.

5. Infection – The boy was taken to the hospital because of an infection.

6. Potent – The medicine is very potent and works quickly.

7. Obesity – Eating too much unhealthy food can lead to obesity.

8. Squat – The children were asked to squat during the exercise.

9. Therapy – The patient attended therapy after the accident.

10. Vulnerable – Young children are vulnerable to some diseases.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson by asking pupils questions on words and meanings they have learned earlier.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils respond to the teacher’s questions and mention meanings of familiar words.

2. The teacher organizes the pupils into groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

Pupils’ Activities: Each pupil belongs to a group.

3. The teacher writes the selected words on the board and pronounces them correctly for the pupils to repeat.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils listen attentively and repeat the words after the teacher.

4. The teacher uses the words on the board to explain their meanings clearly with examples.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils pay attention to the lesson, understand the meanings, and give examples where necessary.

5. The teacher guides the pupils to use each word in simple and correct sentences.
