PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –

1. explain the meaning of drug abuse.

2. mention dangers of drug abuse.

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can identify people who abused drugs.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. Charts/posters illustrating some methods of taking medicines.

2. Resource person

3. Charts of health centres and health personnel

4. Posters showing a drug addict.

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES 

Teacher’s Activities – Invites resource persons to give talks on the effects of drug abuse.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation, ask and answer questions.

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for active participation and note each point of discussion on the board.

DANGERS OF DRUG ABUSE 

Drug abuse is the use of drugs without the advice of a qualified doctor or pharmacist.

The effects or the dangers of drug abuse are –

1. Mental illness

2. Blindness

3. Lung disease

4. Accident

5. Addiction

LESSON 2 – DANGERS OF DRUG ABUSE (Continuation)

Teacher’s Activities – Invites resource persons to give talks on the effects of drug abuse.

Pupil’s Activities – Active participation, ask and answer questions.

Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for active participation and note each point of discussion on the board.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Organises class discussion on drug abuse and its effects.

Pupil’s Activities – List effects involved in drug abuse.

3. Invites resource persons to talk on the effects of drugs.

Pupil’s Activities – Respond to resource persons’ questions as well as ask their own questions.

4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
