CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Emergencies such as fire outbreaks, accidents, crimes, and serious injuries can happen suddenly. During such situations, getting help quickly can save lives and protect property.

Emergency phone numbers provide a quick way to contact appropriate emergency personnel when help is needed. Pupils should know important emergency numbers and understand when to use them.

In this lesson, pupils will learn about important emergency phone numbers and the appropriate personnel to contact during different emergencies.

MEANING OF EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS

Emergency phone numbers are special telephone numbers used to quickly contact emergency services when there is danger, an accident, fire, crime, or another serious situation.

In Nigeria, 112 is the national emergency number and can be used to request urgent assistance. The National Economic Council approved its adoption as the national emergency number across Nigeria in 2026.
