This lesson builds on that knowledge by helping pupils understand the functions of leaders, levels of leadership, and the roles of religious and political leaders.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Leaders are found in different places in society. Parents lead the family, teachers lead pupils in school, community leaders guide people in the community, while political and religious leaders guide people in different ways.
Leaders have important duties such as guiding people, making decisions, maintaining peace, solving problems, and promoting development.
Religious leaders guide people in matters of faith and teach good values, while political leaders guide people through government and public administration.
In this lesson, pupils will learn about the functions of leaders, levels of leadership, and the roles of religious and political leaders.
MEANING OF LEADERSHIP
Leadership is the act of guiding, directing, and helping people to achieve a common goal.
A leader is a person who guides others and helps them make good decisions.
FUNCTIONS OF LEADERS
Leaders perform many important functions. They:
1. Guide people – They show people what to do.
2. Make decisions – They make decisions for the good of the group.
3. Maintain peace and order – They help prevent conflicts.
4. Protect people and property – They work to keep people and property safe.
5. Solve problems – They help people find solutions to problems.
6. Encourage cooperation – They encourage people to work together.
7. Represent the people – They speak for the group or community.
8. Promote development – They support projects that improve people’s lives.
9. Enforce rules and laws – They ensure that people follow agreed rules.
10. Provide direction – They help people work towards common goals.
LEVELS OF LEADERSHIP
Leadership can be found at different levels of society.
1. Family Level
Parents or guardians provide leadership in the family.
Examples of their roles:

2. School Level
Teachers, headteachers, principals, and prefects provide leadership in schools.
