CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

God reveals Himself to people so that they can know Him, understand His will and follow His instructions. God’s revelation means the ways through which God makes Himself, His character, plans and messages known to people.

God revealed Himself to many people in the Bible. One example is Samuel, whom God called while he was serving in the temple under Eli.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the purpose of God’s revelation, the call of Samuel and the different ways God reveals Himself to His people.

MEANING OF GOD’S REVELATION

God’s revelation means God’s act of making Himself, His character, His will or His message known to people.

Through revelation, people can know more about God and understand what He wants them to do.

PURPOSE OF GOD’S REVELATION

God reveals Himself to people in order to:

1. Help people know Him.

2. Make His will known.

3. Guide His people.

4. Teach people what is right.

5. Warn people against wrongdoing.

6. Encourage and strengthen His people.

7. Reveal His plans and promises.

8. Help people obey and serve Him.

THE CALL OF SAMUEL

The story of Samuel’s call is recorded in 1 Samuel 3:1–21.

Samuel was a young boy who served God under Eli the priest. One night, while Samuel was sleeping in the temple near the Ark of God, the Lord called him.

Samuel answered, “Here I am.” He ran to Eli because he thought Eli had called him. Eli told him that he had not called him and asked him to go back and sleep.

The Lord called Samuel again, and Samuel went to Eli again. This happened three times.

Eli realised that it was the Lord who was calling Samuel. He instructed Samuel that if he heard the voice again, he should say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant is listening.”

When the Lord called Samuel again, Samuel responded as Eli had instructed him. God then revealed His message to Samuel.

Samuel grew and became a prophet of God, and the Lord was with him.

WAYS GOD REVEALS HIMSELF TO HIS PEOPLE

God reveals Himself to His people in different ways, including:

1. The Bible: God reveals His character and will through His written Word.

2. Prayer: God can guide and communicate with people as they pray.

3. Dreams and visions: God sometimes used dreams and visions to communicate His messages.

4. His servants and prophets: God can deliver His message through people He chooses.

5. The Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit guides and teaches believers.

6. Nature and creation: God’s creation shows His power, wisdom and greatness.

7. Jesus Christ: Christians believe God revealed Himself fully through Jesus Christ.

The call of Samuel teaches us to:

1. Listen carefully when God speaks.

2. Be willing to obey God’s instructions.

SUMMARY
