INTRODUCTION
Fabric decoration is the process of decorating and adding personality to cloth (fabric).
The process know as tie and Dye.
In this process, tie prevents the cloth from dye, while the untied takes the dye.
Tie and dye is a fabric decoration technique that is mostly common in Abeokuta, Ogun State and some parts of Nigeria.
It designs can be simple or complex.
They can be of a single colour (monochrome), or multicoloured.
Other techniques of fabric decoration include printing, embroidery, painting, and appliqué.
METHODS OF MAKING TIE AND DYE
There are different methods of fabric decoration,
1. Folding
2. Tying
3. Stitching
4. Knotting
5. Pleating
6. Marbling
7. Batik
1. FOLDING
Folding method is the method of making stripe patterns by folding.

2. TYING
Tying method is the method of tying the fabric to create a patterns or designs.

3. STITCHING
Stitching method is the method of using needle (or machine) and tread to join or pull together to form or create a patterns or designs.

Knotting method is the method of using clamps and pegs to hold fabric together to create patterns or designs.

MATERIALS NEEDED FOR MAKING TIE AND DYE
The production of tie and dye fabric requires the following materials:
1. Fabric (white, and 100% cotton).
2. Dye
3. Hydrogen sulphate
4. Caustic soda Tablespoon or other measuring instrument
5. Scissors and knife
6. Rubber gloves
THE PROCESS OF FABRIC DECORATION (TYE AND DYE)
The process of fabric decoration are as follows:
1. The hydrogen sulphate, caustic soda and dye must be measured into an empty and dry plastic bowl.
2. Measure hydrogen sulphate and caustic soda in the ratio of 2:1 depending on the color.
3. Add hot water gradually into the chemical mixture in the bowl and stir properly to ensure that everything dissolves.
4. Dip the fabric into the dye mixture solution and allow it to absorb the dye for about 20 minutes.
5. Care must be taken to ensure that every part of the fabric absorbs the dye evenly.
6. Remove the fabric and allow the excess dye to drip off.
7. Rinse the dyed fabric in clean water and spread to dry under a shade.
