CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION TO WEAVING 

Weaving is universally practised in most urban areas and cities like Abeokuta, Kwara, Iseyin, Akwete, Okene, Benin, Sokoto, Borno, Kano, Bida and Iseyin area among others.

Raffia and cotton are most-widely used in cloth-weaving in Nigeria.

 

MEANING OF WEAVING 

Weaving is the uses of strips of materials interwoven to form patterns on traditional fabric.

 

PRODUCTS OF WEAVING 

The following are the weaving items or products,

1. Clothes

2. Mats

3. Baskets

4. Bags

7. Box

6. Hand fans

8. Ropes, etc.

 

LESSON 2 – TYPES OF WEAVING 

Weaving is done on a loom. There are two types of loom namely – vertical and horizontal weaving. Both types of loom operate on the same principle.

1. Vertical Weaving 

Vertical loom is used by women weavers. This is the type of weaving loom that is vertical and upright. It can be easily moved from one location to another.

 

2. Horizontal weaving

Horizontal loom is used by men weavers for traditional fabric weaving.

 

LESSON 3 – USING PAPER STRIPS TO WEAVE A MAT 

STEPS

1. Cut strips of cardboard with the same or different length by width.

2. Use different colors for to beautify the final weaving.

3. Lay one of the strips of paper horizontally.

4. Beginning with the second strip, interlace the vertical strips of paper with the remaining strips of paper horizontally.

5. Ensure that they are neatly and closely knitted together.

6. Tape all the edges of the weave together.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Displays sample of weaved objects or chart showing some of the products of weaving.

3. Lets the pupils examine and discuss how each product is made.

4. Listen to their discussion and use the keyword (weaving) to introduce the lesson.

5. Explains the meaning and types of of weaving.

6. Guides pupils to weave mat using strips of Weave a mat with strips of paper.

Pupil’s Activities – Weave a mat with strips of Weave a mat with strips of paper.

7. Uses the mat to discuss methods of waving and guide the pupils to use other method of weaving.

8. Discuss the techniques for beautiful and colourful weaving.

Pupil’s Activities – Follow the techniques to weaving beautiful and colour mat.

9. Summarizes each of the lesson on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the lesson summary and write as instructed.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
