TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

The teacher guides the students in the selection and discussion of passages that portray the setting of the novel.

 

 

STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

The students discuss the author’s and the text’s background.

 

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Students to,

1. identify the differences in the old and present setting of the text, where possible.

2. do internet search of the author’s background.

 

 

THEME – INTRODUCTION TO PROSE 

TOPIC 2 – CHARACTERIZATION

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to enumerate the characteristics of the major and minor characters showing how these attributes have led to the success or otherwise of the novel.

 

 

CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

Major and minor characters (hero/villain, protagonist/antagonist).

 

 

LESSON PRESENTATION

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

The teacher,

1. guides the students to discuss the attributes of the characters.

2. illustrates the use of character mapping to show the relationship between characterisation and the outcome of events in the novel.

 

 

STUDENT’S ACTIVITIES

The students,

1. write short notes on the characters.

2. use character mapping as further illustrations.

 

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Students to write similar stories using some of the characters for presentation in class.
