CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Agriculture is one of the oldest and most important occupations of mankind. The practice of agriculture involves production of crops and animals. After the production, the crops and animals are further processing for commercial purposes. Agriculture can be define as the science deals with growing of crops, rearing of animals, processing and selling of agricultural products for the benefit of man (for man’s use).

 

MEANING OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE

Agricultural science is a multidisciplinary field of study that focuses on the research, development, and application of scientific principles and technologies to improve agricultural practices and outcomes. BRANCHES OF AGRICULTURAL SCIENCE

There are 5 branches of agriculture –

2. Horticulture – Horticulture is the study of managing and cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. It is all about the fruits and vegetables and how to grow them.

3. Animal Science – Animal science is the study of livestock production and management, including breeding, nutrition, health, and welfare of animals. That’s, how to take care of animals, as well as how to breed them for the purpose of meat, milk, food, skins, fur, etc.

4. Agricultural Engineering – Agricultural engineering is the study of designing and developing machinery and equipment used in agriculture, as well as irrigation systems and other technologies to improve efficiency and productivity. It is learning about how the different machines work.

5. Agricultural Economics – Agricultural economic is the study of economic factors and principles as they relate to the production, distribution, and consumption of agricultural goods and services. It is about the money and business that the farm will bring.

6. Food Science – Food science is the study of food production, processing, preservation, and safety, as well as the development of new food products and technologies.

7. Agribusiness – Agribusiness is the study of the business aspects of agriculture, including marketing, finance, and management of agricultural enterprises.
