CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
People depend on agriculture for many things they use every day. Farmers grow crops, rear animals, catch or rear fish, keep bees, and manage forests to provide useful products.
Agriculture provides food, employment, income, and raw materials for industries. It also contributes to the development of communities and the country.
In this lesson, pupils will learn about the meaning of agriculture, examples of agricultural activities, and the importance of agriculture.
LESSON 1 – MEANING OF AGRICULTURE
Agriculture is the practice of cultivating crops and rearing animals for food, raw materials, income, and other useful purposes.
Agriculture involves activities such as crop production, animal production, fishing, forestry, and the processing of agricultural products.
EXAMPLES OF AGRICULTURAL ACTIVITIES
Agricultural activities include,
- Growing maize: Planting and harvesting maize.
- Planting cassava: Growing cassava for food and other uses.
- Rearing goats and cattle: Keeping goats and cattle for useful products.
- Poultry farming: Keeping birds such as chickens for eggs and meat.
