The teacher will the lesson with the aid of:

1. chart or drawings of different types of food such as rice, yam, fruits, vegetables, fish, eggs, milk, etc.

2. flashcards with food names and pictures.

3. sample of real food items or toy models of food.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – FOOD 

WHAT IS FOOD? 

Food is what we eat to make us grow, stay strong, and healthy. We eat food everyday. We eat food in the morning, afternoon and in the morning. The food we eat give us energy to play, learn, and grow.

 

TYPES OF FOOD 

There are different types of food such as –

1. Rice

2. Yam

3. Bread

4. Banana

5. Milk

6. Fish

 

LESSON TWO – MORNING, AFTERNOON AND DINNER FOOD

We eat food in the morning, afternoon and in the night. Breakfast occurs in the morning, lunch midday, and dinner/supper in the evening.

 

FOOD IN THE MORNING 

The food eaten in the morning is called breakfast. Breakfast is usually eaten before 10 AM. It is the first and the most important meal of the day.

 

IN THE AFTERNOON 

The food eaten in the afternoon is called lunch. Lunch is usually eaten before 4 PM. It is the second meal of the day.

 

IN THE NIGHT 

The food eaten in the night is called dinner. Breakfast is usually eaten before 7 PM. It is the third meal of the day.

 

LESSON 3 – IMPORTANCE OF FOOD 

Food is very important to our body because,

1. Food makes us grow stronger.

2. Food give us energy to walk, run, jump, play ball, etc.

3. Food protect us from getting sick.

 

LESSON PRESENTATION

To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. Teacher displays sample or chart showing different types of food for the children to identify.

2. Teacher points to the food one after the other for the children to identify.

Children’s Activities – The children identity rice, yam, bean, orange, etc

3. Teacher uses the sample/chart displayed to introduce lesson and asks the children, what is you favourite food and the food they eat in the morning?

Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the lesson introduction, state their favorite food and the food they eat in the morning.

4. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning and types of food.

Children’s Activities – The children explain the meaning of food in their own words.

5. Teacher asks the children, what food did you eat this morning and uses their responses to explain breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Children’s Activities – The children identity breakfast as food eat in the morning, lunch as the food eat in the afternoon and dinner as the food eat in the night.

6. Teacher explains the importance of food to the body.

Children’s Activities – The children say the importance of food.

8. Teacher gives the children home work.

Children’s Activities – The children do their homework.
