By the end of the lesson, the children should to understand the meaning of naming ceremonies.

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of chart showing a new born baby and a naming ceremony.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

WHAT IS NAMING CEREMONY?

A naming ceremony is a tradition (culture) where a new born baby is given a name. It’s a way to celebrate new born babies and welcome them into the family and community.

During a naming ceremony, the names given by the parents are blessed by the pastor if they are Christians or alfa if they are Muslim after seven days a baby is born.

There are special food, drink and music. People eat, drink and dance. Gifts are given to the new born baby.

 

L ESSON PRESENTATION

To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based on what he/she taught or what the children have learned.

2. Teacher displays chart showing a new born baby and the naming ceremony event.

3. Teacher lets the children to examine, identify and describe the pictures on the chart.

Children’s Activities – The children identify, understand and describe the pictures.

4. Teacher uses the chart and the children relevant responses to introduce the lesson and explain the meaning of naming ceremony.

Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the meaning of naming ceremony.

5. Teacher summarizes the lesson in a very simple sentence, asks the children questions based on the lesson taught and gives the children work to do at home.

Children’s Activities – The children participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding to the questions and do their homework at home.
