PERSONAL CLEANLINESS
WHAT IS PERSONAL CLEANLINESS?
Personal Cleanliness are things we do to keep our body, clothes and environment clean and healthy. It is also known as personal hygiene.
Personal cleanliness is a set of activities that help keep the body clean and healthy.
For example,
1. Wash your body regularly.
2. Brush your teeth twice a day, before eating in the morning and after eating at night.
3. Cut your nails.
4. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough or sneeze.
5. Clean things you touch if you’re sick, and throw away tissues and other items that may have germs.
6. Use protection like gloves when you might be at risk of catching an infection.
7. Wash your hands before eating and after eating.
8. What your hands after toileting.
THINGS WE USE FOR PERSONAL CLEANLINESS
The things we used for personal cleanliness are as follows:
1. Clean water
2. Sponge and soap
3. Towel
4. Comb
5. Nail cutter
6. Hand sanitiser
7. Nose mask
8. Salt, etc.
WHY IS PERSONAL CLEANLINESS IMPORTANT?
Good personal hygiene is vital because
1. It helps stop you from getting sick.
2. It helps stop you from spreading germs and infectious diseases.
3. It helps you stay healthy.
4. It makes you feel good and confident.
5. It keeps you fresh and smell nice.
LESSON PRESENTATION
To deliver this lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. Teacher displays sample or chart showing things used for personal cleanliness.
2. Teacher points to each item one after the other for the children to identify and describe their uses.
Children’s Activities – The children identify, describe and demonstrate the uses of the water, soap, sponge, etc.
3. Teacher uses the sample/chart displayed to introduce lesson, explain the meaning of personal cleanliness and leads class discussion on the uses of water, soap, sponge, etc.
Children’s Activities – The children pay attention to the lesson introduction, listen to the teacher’s explanation and participate actively in the class discussion on the uses of water, soap, sponge, etc.
4. Teacher explains the importance of personal cleansing using chart showing heathy and happy children.
Children’s Activities – The children understand and appreciate the importance of personal cleanliness.
5. Teacher summarizes the lesson by asking the children questions based on the lesson taught and gives the children work to do at home.
