PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the students should have attained the following objectives –
1. explain what is meant by costume.
2. explain what make-up is.
3. state the two basic types of make-up.
4. state the uses of make-up and costume in drama.
5. mention some costume and make-u p items.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The students can identify and describe costume and makeup.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of Board, flash cards, textbooks, notebooks, make-up items e.g. eye pencils, powder, lipsticks. Pictorials of costume and make-up.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Costume and makeup is the outlook or physical appearance that describes actors (actresses) during a performance.
MEANING OF COSTUME
Costume is an outfit that enables someone to be suitable for a particular activities.
For example, an outfit of:
1. A pastor
2. Alfa or Imam
3. Herbalist
4. Witch
5. Masquerade
6. Half human and half fish, etc.
MEANING OF MAKE-UP
Make-up is the application of all forms of powder and paint on the performer.
Make up is something used to create appearance different from original look during a play.
For example –
1. Gray hair or beard
2. Tribal marks, etc.
MAKEUP ITEMS
1. Powder
2. Lipstick
3. Wig
4. Eye pencil
5.Native chalk
6. Camwood, etc.
LESSON 2 – TYPES OF MAKEUP
There are two (2) of make-up,
1. Straight makeup
2. Character makeup
STRAIGHT MAKEUP
Straight make-up is the close natural appearance of the actor (actress) that suit a character without any changing the original appearance.
CHARACTER MAKEUP
Character Makeup is used to create a character by changing the actor (actress) physical appearance to match a particular character.
USES OF COSTUME AND MAKEUP
1. It alters appearance.
2. It enhances appearance.
3. It creates confident.
4. It protects the skin.
5. It beautifies the body.
LESSON 3 – SHORT PLAY, REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the students some questions; then, the teacher –
2. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups depending on the size of the class.
3. Teacher displays chart showing spiderman, batman, masquerade, pastor, etc. and some popular actors in Nigeria.
4. Teacher allows the pupils to examine and discuss the characters of the people on the chart.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify and discuss the contents of the chart.
5. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson and leads a discussion on the meaning and types of costume and makeup.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the meaning and types of costume and makeup.
6. Teacher guides the pupils as groups to discuss and differentiate between costume and make-up.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils differentiate between costume and make-up.
7. Teacher leads a class discussion on the uses of costume and makeup.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils analyze the important uses of costume and makeup in movie industry.
8. Teacher organizes a short play that enable the pupils to participate as groups.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils take role in the play
9. Summarizes the lesson on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.
Student’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and writes as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
