1. explain the term – threat.

2. state  types of threat.

3. mention punishment for various threats to personal security.

The pupils can state the types of punishment.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures and video clips and resourceful personnel such as the police or legal practitioner.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Personal security is an extra caution taken to ensure your personal safety at all time. The aims of taken extra caution is to protect ourselves from various threats to personal security such as predatory people, physical violence, domestic abuse, rape, robbery, cultism, social injustice, etc. Predatory people are people that takes advantages of weak or vulnerable such as women, children and old. 

All threats to personal security are criminal behaviours that are punishable offense by law.

 

 

MEANING AND TYPES OF THREAT 

A threat is a warming to harm or injure an individual or group of people if they do not do what someone wants them to do.It is a warning or sign that harm or trouble is coming.

A threat can be spoken, written, or symbolic.

Threat to life is a criminal offence according to Section 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

 

TYPES OF THREAT 

There are four (4) types of threat,

1. Direct threat

2. Indirect threat

3. Veiled threat

4. Conditional threat

 

DIRECT THREAT

A direct threat is a act of violence that is carried out against a specific target. This kind of threat is straightforward, clear and explicit threat. For example, I’m going to bring gun to work tomorrow and shoot anyone in the office.

 

INDIRECT THREAT 

An indirect threat is a threat that is uncertain, unclear, and ambiguous statement. An ambiguous sentence is a sentence that a reader can interpret in two or more ways. For example, I could kill everyone in this office if I decided to. The statement is not

 

 

VEILED THREAT 

A veiled threat is a threat that does not specifically threaten violence. For example, all the workers are so stupid they don’t deserve to live.

 

CONDITIONAL THREAT 

A conditional threat is a threat that occurs unless specified conditions are met. For example,I will put a bomb in the office unless you fire the manager.

 

 

LESSON 2 – PUNISHMENT FOR VARIOUS TYPES OF THREAT 

Threat to life is a criminal offence according to Section 56 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Invite the police or legal practitioner (lawyer) to speak on the appropriate punishment for different types of threat. 

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) – As stated in the performance objectives or weekly assessment. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into two or more groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher asks the pupils to state the reasons for reporting any threat to personal security.

4. Teacher participates actively in the class discussion.

5. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson such as what is threat?

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction understand the concept of lesson.

6. Teacher leads a class discussion on the meaning and types of threat.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion.

7. Teacher introduces the invited guest (the police or legal practitioner) to state and discuss the punishment for different types of threat or takes the pupils on an excursion to the nearest police station or legal office on the appropriate punishment for each type of threat.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the guest speaker, participate actively in the class discussion, ask questions and respond to guest speaker’s questions.

8. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summarizes of the lesson by responding to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
