PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES 

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –

1. explain the term – law.

2. illustrate the meaning of right.

3. analyze the child’s right act in Nigeria.

 

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

The pupils can define law as Do’s and Don’ts.

 

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of pictures and video clips.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

A child is a young boy or girl that is below the age of puberty or below the legal age of majority. An unborn is also known as a child.

 

 

A legal age is usually start from 18 years. This is differ from state to state. At this age, a person can engage in a legal activities. Any child below 18 years doesn’t have the right to perform any legal activities but he/she is protect by law until they reach the legal age.

According to the Section 29(4) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FRN) defines a child as any person under the age of 18.

 

MEANING OF LAW 

A law is a rule made by a government which the citizens must obey and fellow accordingly or be punished by the law for disobeying the law. A law is a rule of Do’s and Don’ts.

 

MEANING OF RIGHT

A right is what you can do and enjoy according to the law. A citizen of a country enjoy more than a foreign. What the citizen enjoys is known as right.

 

THE CHILD’S RIGHT 

The Child’s Rights Act (2003) is the law that guarantees the rights of all children in Nigeria, providing for the best interest of a child to be of paramount consideration in all actions. It also provides for a child to be given protection and care necessary for his or her wellbeing.

 

 

LESSON 2 – THE CHILD’S RIGHT ACT 

According to the Part II (Section 3 – 20) of the Child’s Rights Act 2003, the child’s act are stated as follows:

1. The Right to survival and development (Section 4)

2. The Right to name (Section 5)

3. The Freedom of association and peaceful assembly (Section 6)

4. The Freedom of thoughts, conscience and religion (Section 7)

5. The Right to private and family life (Section 8)

6. The Right to freedom of movement (Section 9)

7. The Right to freedom from discrimination (Section 10)

8. The Right to dignity of a child (Section 11)

9. The Right to leisure, recreation and cultural activities (Section 12)

10. Right to health and health services (Section 13)

11. The Right to parental care, protection and maintenance (Section 14)

12. Right of a child to free, compulsory and universal primary education, etc.(Section 15)

13. Right of a child in need of special protection measure (Section 16)

14. Right of the unborn child to protection against harm, etc. (Section 17)

15. The Contractual rights of a child (Section 18)

16. The Responsibilities of a child and parent (Section 19)

17. Parent, etc. to provide guidance with respect to child’s responsibilities (Section 20)

 

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST) – As stated in the performance objectives or weekly assessment. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher organizes the pupils into two or more groups depending on the size of the class.

3. Teacher displays chart showing the school’s rules and regulations.

4. Teacher lets the pupils read, analyze and discuss the reasons for school’s rules and regulations.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils analyze the importance of rules and regulations in the school.

5. Teacher uses the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce the lesson – Child’s Right Law.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction understand the concept of lesson.

6. Teacher uses the school’s rules and regulations to lead a discuss on the meaning of law and right.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the class discussion.

7. Teacher explains the child’s right act.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils listen to the teacher’s explanation.

8. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.

Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summarizes of the lesson by responding to most of the questions and write as instructed.

 

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
