LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, pupils should be able to:
1. Explain the meaning of a vehicle.
2. Identify different types of vehicles.
3. Mention the external parts of a vehicle.
4. State the advantages of vehicles.
5. State the disadvantages of vehicles.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
Pupils have previously learned about types of buildings and their uses, such as residential, school, and hospital buildings.
This lesson builds on that knowledge by showing that vehicles are also important for movement between these buildings. It further helps pupils understand that vehicles have external parts that help them function properly and safely during transportation of people and goods.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Pictures of cars, buses, bicycles, motorcycles, ships, trains, and aeroplanes
2. Charts showing the external parts of a vehicle
3. Toy vehicles (if available)
4. Whiteboard and marker/chalkboard and chalk
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
People travel from one place to another every day. Vehicles make movement easier, faster, and more convenient. Different types of vehicles are used on land, water, and in the air.
MEANING OF VEHICLE
A vehicle is a machine used for transporting people, animals, or goods from one place to another.
Types of Vehicles
1. Land Vehicles: These move on roads or railways.
Examples: Car, Bus, Bicycle, Motorcycle, Truck and Train
2. Water Vehicles: These move on water.
Examples: Canoe, Boat and Ship
3. Air Vehicles: These move in the air.
Examples: Aeroplane and Helicopter
EXTERNAL PARTS OF A VEHICLE
- Tyres (wheels)
- Doors
- Windows
- Headlights
- Side mirrors
- Windscreen
- Bonnet
- Boot (trunk)
- Bumper
- Number plate
1. Tyres (Wheels)
Meaning: Tyres are rubber parts fixed to the wheels of a vehicle.
Uses:
- Help the vehicle to move smoothly.
- Support the weight of the vehicle.
2. Doors
Meaning: Doors are openings on a vehicle used for entering and leaving.
Uses:
- Allow passengers to enter and exit the vehicle.
- Provide safety and security.
3. Windows
Meaning: Windows are glass openings on a vehicle.
Uses:
- Allow air and light into the vehicle.
- Allow passengers to see outside.
4. Headlights
Meaning: Headlights are lights at the front of a vehicle.
Uses:
- Help drivers see at night or in darkness.
- Make the vehicle visible to others.

3. They help move goods from one place to another.
5. They make travelling easier and more comfortable.
6. They support business and trade.
DISADVANTAGES OF VEHICLES
1. They can cause accidents if not used properly.
2. They produce noise pollution.
3. They may cause air pollution.
4. They require money for maintenance and fuel.
5. Traffic congestion can occur when many vehicles use the road.
SUMMARY
In this lesson, pupils learned that a vehicle is a machine used for transporting people, animals, and goods from one place to another.
- They also learned the types of vehicles, which are: Land vehicles (cars, buses, bicycles, motorcycles, trains), Water vehicles (boats, ships, canoes) and Air vehicles (aeroplanes, helicopters)
- Pupils further studied the external parts of a vehicle, such as tyres, doors, windows, headlights, side mirrors, windscreen, bonnet, boot, bumper, and number plate, and their uses.
- Finally, pupils learned the advantages of vehicles (saving time, easy transportation, movement of goods) and the disadvantages of vehicles (accidents, pollution, and traffic congestion).
Overall, the lesson helps pupils understand the importance of vehicles in everyday life and how their parts support safe and effective movement.
PRESENTATION
