CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

People live in different countries around the world. Each country has its own name, government, flag, national anthem, and citizens. Such a country is called a nation. Nigeria is one of the many nations in the world and is located in West Africa.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of a nation, examples of nations of the world, and how to locate Nigeria on the map of Africa and the world map.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF A NATION

A nation is a group of people who live together in a particular country and are united by common laws, government, history, culture, or language.

A nation is also a country with its own government and citizens.

NATIONS OF THE WORLD

A nation is an independent country where people live under one government and share common values, rules, and national identity.

There are many nations in the world. Some examples are:

• Nigeria

• Ghana

• Kenya

• South Africa

• United Kingdom

• United States of America

• Canada

• Brazil

• China

• India

Each nation has its own:

• National Flag

• National Anthem

• Government

LESSON 2 – NIGERIA AS A NATION

Nigeria is a nation located in West Africa.

LOCATING NIGERIA ON THE WORLD MAP

Nigeria can be found:

• On the continent of Africa.

• In the western part of Africa.

• Along the Gulf of Guinea.

• Between the countries of Benin, Niger, Chad, and Cameroon.

SUMMARY
