PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. explain what is air pollution.
2. mention things that pollute the air.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can differentiate between a fresh air and polluted air.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Fresh and decay food.
2. Death animal like rat, if available.
3. Good and polluted water.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

WRITING INSTRUCTION
Copy as I write or draw as I write. This instruction should be given when you need the pupils to write or draw.
CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY QUESTIONS
Teacher’s Activities – Instructional materials with set of instructions.
- Put fresh and decay inside separate containers with covers.
- Do the same with good and smelling water.
- Group the pupils and give each group a container.
- Ask the groups (one after the other) to cover the container.
- Watch the reactions of some group.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation and describe the smell from the container if it is pleasant or not.
Teacher’s remark – The bad smell smell is known as air pollution. Using appropriate charts and instances to ask the pupils, what are other things that can pollute air.
THINGS THAT POLLUTE THE AIR
Things that pollute the air are –
1. Decay foods.
2. Death and rotten animals.
3. Smell from burst toilet pipes.
4. Refuse
5. Kitchen waste
6. Smoke from engines like bad cars, bad generator, etc.
7. Smoke from over frying oil.
8. Passing out of gas from the cylinder.
9. Smoke from burning refuse.
10. Smell from gutter and canal.
LESSON 2 – AIR POLLUTION
Teacher’s/Pupil’s Activities – Based on the previous class assignment, ask the pupils, what is air pollution? Listen and support their definition. Write the meaning on the board.
MEANING OF AIR POLLUTION
Air pollution is when things with bad smell or odor get to the air and make it unclean.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Guides pupils to state things that pollute the air.
Pupil’s Activities – State things that pollute the air.
3. Leads pupils to explain air pollution.
Pupil’s Activities – Explain air pollution.
4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
