CONTENTS OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
A drug is a substance that can affect the activities of the body. Drugs can be natural or chemical in nature. The normal use of drugs makes you well, if taken according to the doctor’s instructions. Some drugs when taken without the doctor’s prescription are dangerous to the body. Examples are aspirin, valium and antibiotics. Also, some substances when taken change the action of the body. For examples, drug such as heroine, cocaine, cannabis or indian hemp. This kind of substance is known as hard drug.
MEANING OF DRUG ABUSE
Any drugs that are not used for medical purposes are known as drug abuse. What is drug abuse? Drug abuse is when a person uses drugs in a harmful or dangerous way. This can include taking more than the recommended dose, using drugs that are not prescribed to them, or using drugs to try to escape problems or feelings. Drug abuse can have serious negative consequences on a person’s health and life.
MEANING HARD DRUGS
Hard drugs are also known as illegal substances. These drugs are most harmful and dangerous drugs that can affect the brain and body negatively. What is hard drugs? Hard drugs are drugs that are very harmful and addictive. Examples of hard drugs include heroine, cocaine, cannabis or indian hemp. These drugs can have severe negative effects on a person’s health and can be very dangerous to use. It is important to stay away from hard drugs and only use medication that is prescribed by a doctor.

EFFECTS OF DRUG ABUSE TO MAN

LESSON 3 – EFFECTS OF DRUG ABUSE ON THE SOCIETY
Drug abuse can have widespread and negative effects on society as a whole. The effects of drug abuse on society are as follows –
1. It increases crime rates. Drug abuse is often linked to criminal activity, such as drug trafficking, theft, and violence.
2. It increases healthcare costs for society as a whole.
3. It reduces productivity of workers.
4. It tears apart families, even friendship.
5. It leads to societal breakdown.
5. It increases demand social services such as addiction treatment programs, mental health services, and homelessness support.

RECONMENDATION
Different drug abuse can have different effects on man and the society at large. Some effects include health consequences that are long-lasting, even permanent. The effects of some drug abuse on the other hands can continue even after the person has stopped taking them.
It’s important for you to understand the risks and consequences of drug abuse so they can make smart choices and stay healthy and safe. Encouraging open communication and providing accurate information about drugs can help prevent drug abuse in children.

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils relevant questions on lesson taught or learn.

3. Teacher displays chart showing people using drugs and other substances for recreational and nonmedical purposes for identify and describe their activities. Or plays short video on the effects of drug abuse on man and to the society.
4. Teacher uses the chart/video and the pupils relevant responses to introduce the lesson, leads a class discussion on the meaning of drugs, drug abuse, commonly drug abuse and hard drugs.
5. Teacher leads a class discussion on effects of drug abuse on man and to the society.
6. Teacher organizes a short drama on the effects of drug abuse on man and to the society. Or Tells children stories about people who abuse drugs or Arrange for a guest talk on drug/substance abuse.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the short drama, listen and learn from the stories and guest talk; Tell some stories about victims of drug abuse in their societies.
7. Teacher guides the pupils to make poster showing Say No to Drug Abuse.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils make posters for campaigning against drug abuse and educating others against drug abuse.
8. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board with appropriate evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions write as instructed.
