PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. explain the meaning of drugs and drug abuse.
2. state the ways by which drugs/medicines are taken into the body.
3. state examples of drugs that can be abused.
4. differentiate between normal use of drug and abnormal use of drugs.
5. state the right people to administer drug.
ENTRY BEHAVIOUR
The pupils can state the uses of drugs.
INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Charts/posters illustrating some methods of taking medicines.
2. Resource person
3. Charts of health centres and health personnel
4. Posters showing a drug addict.
METHOD OF TEACHING
Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.
Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Drugs are any substance other than food which when taken can change the body function.
Drugs are taken by –
1. Swallow
2. Drinking
3. Inhale
4. Injection
When drugs taken drugs by swallowing, drinking or inhaling are recommended and taken by the doctors or any professional health workers prescription, that’s is good and ok. But, when these drugs are not, it is called drug abuse.
There is no drugs that cannot be abuse.
LESSON 2 – DRUG ABUSE
Drug abuse is the use of drugs without the advice of a qualified doctors.
Drug abuse is also known as wrong use of drugs.
THE RIGHT PEOPLE TO ADMINISTER DRUG
The right person to administer drugs is pharmacists.
GUEST SPEAKER
Invite any available health worker to talk on drug abuse.
Note – Any of your colleagues can post as guest speaker.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Displays sample of Drugs.
3. Lets pupils identify and state the reasons why we take drugs.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify and state the reasons why we take drugs.
4. Leads the pupils to identify and discuss the methods of taking drugs/medicines into the body (swallowing, drinking, inhaling).
Pupil’s Activities – State methods of taken Drugs.
5. Asks pupils to describe ways they have been taking medicines/drugs.
Pupil’s Activities – Describe ways of taking medicines/drugs.
6. Discuss the different between the person that prescribed and administer drugs.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify and differentiate the person that prescribed and administer drugs.
7. Invites resource persons to give talks on drug abuse.
Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the guest speaker, ask and answer questions.
8. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the lesson summary and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
