By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to –
1. explain what a grain crop is.
2. name and identify local grain crops.
The can identify the local grain crops.
The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:
1. Samples of local grains crops.
2. Charts showing grain crops with cobs, head/panicles and grains of crops.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTORY ACTIVITIES
Teacher’s Activities – Ask the pupils to state the local grain crops in their community.
Pupil’s Activities – Rice, beans, etc.
Teacher’s remark – Give a great cheer for quick response. Note the grain crops that are correctly mentioned and lead the pupils to describe the grain crops.
Copy as I write on the board.
EXAMPLES OF LOCAL GRAIN CROPS
A grain is a small hard and dry seed cultivated and harvested as humans or for other purpose.
For examples, grain crops are –
5. Guinea corn
8. Barley, etc.
Note – Ask the pupils to state the local name of the above grain crops.
LESSON 2 – A TRIP TO SCHOOL FARM OR NEAREST FARM LAND WHERE GRAIN CROPS ARE GROWN
Teacher’s Activities – On the school farm (if available) or nearest farmland where grain crops are grown for the pupils to know how different grain crop plants look like.
Pupil’s Activities – Active participation on the farmland.
Teacher’s remark – Each grain crop has its unique structure. Observe and draw any grain crops of your choice.
Find out the uses of grain crops.
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Presents and identify samples of various grain crops.
Pupil’s Activities – Observe and identify by name each of the grain crops.
3. Takes pupils to school farm where grain crops are grown.
Pupil’s Activities – Observe and identify by name each of the grain crops on farmland.
4. Summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
