CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
International organization is the organization of people from different countries or nations.
It is also an association or organization among nations to make the world a better, happier and safer place to live.
EXAMPLES OF INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS IN WHICH NIGERIA IS A MEMBER
Examples of international organization in which Nigeria is a member are as follows:
1. African Union (AU) formally known as Organization of African Unity (OAU)
2. Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS)
3. Commonwealth of Nations
4. United Nations Organization (UNO)
The following are the international organizations set up by UNO –
5. World Health Organization (WHO)
6. United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organizations (UNESCO)
7. International Labour Organization (ILO)
LESSON 2 – INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS
AFRICAN UNION
The African Union (AU) is a continental union consisting of 55 member states located on the continent of Africa.
The intention of the AU was to replace the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) with the aims and to encourage political and economic integration among member states, and to eradicate colonialism and neo – colonialism from the African continent.
ECONOMIC COMMUNITY OF WEST AFRICAN STATES (ECOWAS)
The Economic Community of West African States is a regional political and economic union of 15 countries located in West Africa.
The members of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) are Benin, Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, The Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
The main goal of ECOWAS is to promote economic cooperation among member states in order to raise living standards and promote economic development.
COMMONWEALTH OF NATIONS
The Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 54 independent and equal countries in Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and the Pacific which focuses on intergovernmental aspects, commonwealth foundation and non-governmental relations amongst member states.
UNITED NATIONS ORGANIZATION (UNO)
The United Nations is an intergovernmental organization between nations of the world aims to maintain international peace and security, develop friendly relations among themselves, achieve international cooperation, and be a centre for harmonizing the actions of nations.
It is the world’s largest and most familiar international organization.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO)
The World Health Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations responsible for international public health.
LESSON 3 – UNESCO, ILO AND EFFORTS TO STOP STDs, HIV AND AIDS
UNITED NATIONS EDUCATIONAL, SCIENTIFIC AND CULTURAL ORGANIZATIONS
The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is a specialized agency of the United Nations aimed at promoting world peace and security through international cooperation in education, arts, sciences, and culture.
INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATIONS
The International Labour Organization is a United Nations agency whose mandate is to advance social and economic justice through setting international labour standards.
It is the first and oldest specialized agency of the UN.
EFFORTS OF INTERNATIONAL BODIES AT SOLVING STDS, HIV AND AIDS
1. Management of patients.
2. Providing shelter and clothing for patient.
3. Provide medication.

PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;
2. Teacher organizes pupil’s in groups or pairs to make a list of clubs or associations in schools and their community.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify and state some of the clubs or associations in school and their community.
3. Teacher asks each group or pair to explain the meaning of association or club.
Pupil’s Activities – Explain the meaning of association as the group of people, business or government.
4. Teacher uses the keyword(s) group of people to introduce the lesson – Internation Organizations.
Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of international organizations.
5. Teacher uses chart showing organizations of people, business and government from different countries (nations) to discuss the meaning of international Organizations.
6. Teacher states different organizations in which Nigeria is a member with their aims and objectives.
Pupil’s Activities – Identify international organizations in which Nigeria is a member with their aims and objectives.
7. Teacher displays face mask and condom for the pupils to identify and state their uses.
Pupil’s Activities – State the uses of face mask and condom – to prevent, reduce or stop the spread coronavirus and sexual transmitted diseases.
8. Teacher uses pupil’s responses to discuss the efforts of International Organization to solving the problems of COVID 19, STDs, HIV and AIDS.
Pupil’s Activities – State the efforts of International Organization to solving the problems of COVID 19, STDs, HIV and AIDS as discussed.
9. Teacher guides pupils in groups or pairs to identify, state and discuss efforts of of international organizations to stop STDs, HIV and AIDS.
Pupil’s Activities – List and discuss the efforts of international organizations in solving the problem of STDs, HIV and AIDS.
10. Teacher summarizes the lesson on the board.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson and write as instructed.
