CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION

A wages is the amount of money an employer pays to their employees for the job they do on a daily basis.

Sometimes, wages are paid at the end of the month.

When wages paid at the end of the month, it is called salary.

MEANING OF SALARY

A salary is the amount of money an employer pays to their employees for the job they do on a monthly basis.

The total amount pays for the job you do during the year is called annual salary.

Salary is divided into two parts,

1. Basic salary

2. Allowances

 

 

LESSON 2 – MEANING AND TYPES OF ALLOWANCE

MEANING OF ALLOWANCE 

Allowance is the total amount of money paid as expenses.

Allowances are part of monthly salary.

 

EXAMPLES OF ALLOWANCE

The examples of allowance are as follows:

1. Rent allowance

2. Meal allowance

3. Transport allowance

4. Utility allowance

5. Health allowance

6. Professional allowance, teaching allowance as in teaching profession.

7. Miscellaneous allowance

 

REASONS WHY SOME PEOPLE EARN HIGHER SALARIES THAN THE OTHERS 

The reasons why some people earn higher than other people are as follows:

LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Teacher displays payslip from other profession (same profession).

3. Teacher organizes the pupils in groups or pairs with copy of the payslip to observe and describe.

4. Teacher uses pupil’s responses to introduce the lesson – wages, salary and allowance.

Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of wages, salary and allowance.

5. Teacher leads a discussion on the meaning and different between wages and salary with appropriate examples of jobs or works.
