CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION
Computer misuse is the improper or illegal used of computer that affects the mind and behaviour of the users in a negative way that cause harm to other computer users.
Computer misuse is also known as computer abuse.
The abuse is done by children, adults and the old.
Most of the children used computer for improper activities such as watching pornography, bullying, etc. while the adult and the old used it for both improper and illegal activities such as fraud, stealing identity, etc.
AREAS OF COMPUTER MISUSE
There are many areas where computer has been used for wrong or negative things, for example –
1. Piracy
2. Job losses
3. Invasion of privacy
4. Fraud
5. Stealing
6. Cybercrime or cyberbullying
7. Virus
8. Hacking, etc.
1. PIRACY
Computer software are written by computer programmers for sale.
However, a lot of users simply get copies of software from friends and colleagues for use on their system without paying for it.
2. JOB LOSSES
As a result of the fact that many operations are now done by the computer, people who are not literate in computer use are likely to lose their jobs.
3. INVASION OF PRIVACY
Many people now have access to the Internet and have email addresses.
It is now common to receive emails from people or companies you don’t know anything about trying to pass information or sell something to you.
LESSON 2 – AREAS OF COMPUTER MISUSE
4. FRAUD
Goods and services are sold and bought on the internet.
We need to know the people we deal with.
Otherwise, goods or services purchased many never be delivered as it may be a fraud.
5. STEALING
People can steal password and withdraw money from bank accounts through the ATM machine or the internet.
6. CYBERCRIME OR CYBERBULLYING
Computer is used online to threatening the peace of other users.
7. P O R N O G R A PHY
P O R N O G R A PHY is one of the area where computer is being misuse.
It is an online sexual activities that show nude photos and videos.
8. VIRUS
Virus is a program used to cause damage to computer or gain access to personal information.
9. HACKING
Computer are also used to gain access a private information or network inside a computer.
10. IMPERSONATION
Computers are used to steal people identity and to incriminate them in their criminal activities.
LESSON 3 – THE REASONS WHY PEOPLE ABUSE THE COMPUTERS
People abuse the computers for many reasons,
1. Greed
2. Joblessness
3. Ignorance
4. Easy access
5. Unemployment
6. Underemployment
7. Anonymity (Faceless)
8. Parent carelessness
9. Bullying
10. Fun
HOW TO PREVENT COMPUTER ABUSE OR MISUSE
Computer misuse or abuse can be prevent as follows:
1. Copyright law
2. Regulating the social media
3. Strong computer passwords
4. The use of two way factors (2fa)
5. Protect your online identity and personal information
6. Monitor the use of computer by your children
7. Install child app
8. Install a premium antivirus
LESSON 3 – REVISION AND WEEKLY ASSESSMENT (TEST)
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions.
2. Teacher organizes pupils in groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.
3. Teacher displays chart showing different computer users in the banks, offices, schools, etc.
4. Teacher lets the groups or pairs examine the chart and describe the activities of the computer users.
Pupil’s Activities – Discuss the uses and importance of the computer.
5. Teacher listens the pupils and uses their responses to introduce the lesson and leads a discussion on computer abuse and areas where computers are being misuse.
Pupil’s Activities – Pay attention to the lesson introduction to understand the concept of the lesson and participate accordingly.
6. Teacher explains why people misuse the computers.
Pupil’s Activities – Analyze the reasons why people misuse the computer.
7. Teacher leads a discussion on how the children and adults can abuse the computer and asks them to suggest ways to prevent the abuse.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the class discussion, analyze how children and adults abuse the computer in their communities and suggests ways to prevent the abuse.
8. Teacher summarizes the lessons on the board with appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
- To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
