CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

A syllable is a beat or unit of sound in a word. Words can have one syllable, two syllables, or more.

MONOSYLLABLE WORDS

Monosyllable words are words that have only one syllable or one beat when pronounced.

EXAMPLES OF MONOSYLLABLE WORDS

4. Ball – Ball

SENTENCES WITH MONOSYLLABLE WORDS

BISYLLABLE WORDS

Bisyllable words are words that have two syllables or two beats when pronounced.

IMPORTANCE OF LEARNING SYLLABLES

1. It helps correct pronunciation.

2. It improves reading and spelling skills.

3. It helps pupils divide words properly.

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson on word pronunciation and asks pupils to clap while pronouncing simple words.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils clap and pronounce words according to the number of beats they hear.

2. The teacher organizes the pupils into groups or pairs depending on the size of the class.

Pupils’ Activities: Each pupil belongs to a group.

3. The teacher writes examples of monosyllable and bisyllable words on the board and pronounces them clearly.

Pupils’ Activities: The pupils repeat the words after the teacher and identify the number of syllables in each word.

4. The teacher explains the meaning of syllables and differentiates between monosyllable and bisyllable words.
