PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives –
1. Explain the meaning of religion.
2. Mention different types of religion.
3. State mode of religion practices.
4. Attempt 70% (and above) weekly assessment (test) correctly.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON
LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION (OUR RELIGION)
Religion is the mode of worshipping God. That’s, believing God, having faith in God and worshiping the existence of God.
TYPES OF RELIGION
The main religions in Nigeria are –
1. The Christianity
2. The Islam
3. The African traditional religions.
CHRISTIAN RELIGION
Christianity is a religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ of Nazareth as the son of God. The people in Christianity religion are called the Christians.
PLACE OF WORSHIP
The Christian place of worship is called a Church. Sometimes, some christians find a quite places to pray and worship like the mountain, camp, etc. to avoid distraction.
The Christian major days of worship are on Sunday, Christmas, good Friday, Easter Sunday and Monday. Other days are Monday to Friday with programme such as Bible study, youth meeting, prayer meeting, etc.
OBJECTS USED FOR WORSHIP
Objects used in Christian worshippers are vary depending on the denomination. But two or more of the following are common objects –
1. The Bible
2. Hymn books
3. Fags
4. Art supplies
5. Finances
6. Bells
7. Water
8. Anointing oil
9. Musical instruments
10. Rosary (prayer beads)
11. Symbols or pictures, etc.
LESSON 2 – ISLAM RELIGION
Islam is a religion based on the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad as the messenger of God. The people in Islam religion are called the Muslims.
PLACE OF WORSHIP
The Muslim’s place of worship is called a mosque. A praying group is used for a congregational prayers mainly on Friday and Salah. They must prayed 5 times a day either in group or in person.
OBJECTS USED FOR WORSHIP
The following objects are used by Muslim worshippers –
1. The Quran
2. Prayer beads
3. Mats
4. Hijab, etc.
TRADITIONAL RELIGIOUS
Traditional religion are indigenous religious based on the cultural beliefs of god or goddess. The people in traditional religion are called priest, herbalist, traditionalist,ritualist, etc.
PLACE OF WORSHIP
Traditional place of worship is commonly known as shrine, temple, altar or Grove. Other sacred places are used for public sacrifices (rituals) and prayers.
OBJECTS USED FOR WORSHIP
1. Image
2. Iron
3. living things like dogs, goats, etc.
4. Groundnut and palm oil
5. Salts and sugars
6. Shea butter, etc.
PRESENTATION
To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:
1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson based he/she has taught the pupils or lesson learnt.
2. Teacher organizes the pupils into groups depending on the size of class.
3. Teacher displays chart showing religion places or objects used by each type of religion in Nigeria.
4. Teacher lets the pupils examine, identify and state the uses of each object identified.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils identify the place of religion worship and describe the uses of objects of worship.
5. Teacher uses the chart or objects and the pupil’s relevant responses to introduce and leads a class discussion on the meaning and types of religion in Nigeria.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils pay attention to the lesson introduction and participate actively in the class discussion on the meaning and types of religion.
6. Teacher asks the pupils as group to state and describe the Christian, Islamic and Traditional religions stating their place of worships and objects.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils describe different types of religion in Nigeria with their places of worship and objects of worship.
7. Teacher groups the pupils according to their faith to demonstrate the mode their mode of worship.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils demonstrate the religion mode of worship according to their faith and beliefs.
8. Teacher leads a class discussion on how to have respect for other people religions.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils appreciate the importance of religion tolerance in our community.
9. Teacher summarizes lessons on the board using appropriate lesson evaluation.
Pupil’s Activities – The pupils participate actively in the summary of the lesson by responding correctly to most of the questions and write as instructed.
CONCLUSION
To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
