A phrasal verb is a combination of a verb and a particle (an adverb or a preposition) that forms a new meaning. The meaning of a phrasal verb is often different from the meaning of the verb when it stands alone.
For example:
- get up means to rise from bed.
- turn off means to stop a machine or light from working.
- put on means to wear something.
