PREVIOUS LESSON – Reasons We Need to Obey Traffic Regulations (Primary 4)

THEME – TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

TOPIC: AGENCIES ENFORCING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to identify some agencies enforcing traffic regulations.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. The Highway Code

2. Resource persons

3. Pictures of road traffic signs

4. Resource persons to present a talk on the needs to obey road signs.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – TRAFFIC AGENCIES 

Agencies that enforce traffic regulations are –

1. Traffic police

2. Traffic wardens

3. Road safety Corp

4. Road Marshals trained by the Federal Road Safety Commission.

5. Mobile court

6. Vehicle Inspection Officer (V. I. O.)

7. LASTMA

8. Drivers

9. Union, etc.

 

 

FUNCTIONS OF AGENCIES ENFORCING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

1. Making the highway safe for motorists and other road users.

2. Recommending works and devices designed to eliminate or minimize accidents on the highways and advising the Federal and State Governments including the Federal Capital Territory Administration and relevant governmental agencies on the localities where such works and devices are required, and

3. Educating motorists and members of the public on the importance of discipline on the highway.

 

LESSON TWO – FUNCTIONS OF AGENCIES ENFORCING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

1. Preventing or minimizing accidents on the roads.

2. Clearing obstructions on any part of the roads.

3. Educating drivers, motorists and other members of the public generally on the proper use of the roads.

4. The standardization of road traffic codes.

5. Giving prompt attention and care to victims of accidents.

6. Regulating the use of mobile phones by motorists.

7. Regulating the use of seat belts and other safety devices.

8. Regulating the use of motorcycles on the roads.

9. Arrest and prosecute persons suspected of having committed any traffic offence.

 

LESSON THREE – WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Asks pupils to list of agencies that enforce traffic regulations;

Pupil’s Activities – List their findings on paper and discuss in class functions of traffic agencies.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – agencies enforcing traffic regulations.

Pupils to:

1. list 3 agencies that enforce the traffic regulations.

2. Name 4 problems associated with traffic regulation.

3. Suggest 2 solutions to problems of traffic regulation.
