PREVIOUS LESSON – Meaning and Reasons of Traffic Regulations and Signs (Primary 4)

TOPIC – REASONS WE NEED TO OBEY TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

 

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and should be able to explain how and why we should obey traffic regulations.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of:

1. The Highway Code

2. Resource persons

3. Pictures of road traffic signs

4. Resource persons to present a talk on the needs to obey road signs.

 

 

METHOD OF TEACHING – Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON 

LESSON ONE – INTRODUCTION

Traffic regulations are the rules and laws made for the control of goods, people and vehicles on our roads.

It is for the safety of the people using the roads.

 

 

REASONS FOR OBEYING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

1. Help to check over speeding.

2. Reduce accidents on roads.

3. Drivers will behave well on the road.

4. Smooth flow of vehicles, etc.

 

LESSON TWO – WAYS OF OBEYING TRAFFIC REGULATIONS 

1. Regular maintenance of vehicles

2. Slowing down at zebra crossing

3. Avoid over speeding

4. Respect traffic sign

5. Trustfulness

6. Straight forwardness

7. Self respect

8. Obedience.

 

LESSON THREE – WEEKLY ASSIGNMENT

As stated in performance objectives or lesson evaluation. 

 

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Invites a resource person to talk on pupils on Highway Code and signs;

Pupil’s Activities – Look at the traffic signs and draw them. Listen to the resources persons.

3. Reads out some stories of accidents from newspapers and asks pupils to related questions;

Pupil’s Activities – Answer teacher’s questions.

4. Invites a resource person to talk to pupils on how and way we should obey traffic regulations;

Pupil’s Activities – Listen to the resources persons.

5. Asks pupils to prepare at home a list of agencies that enforce traffic regulations;

Pupil’s Activities – List their findings on paper and discuss in class functions of traffic agencies.

 

CONCLUSION

  • To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson – agencies enforcing traffic regulations.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Pupils to give two reasons why we should obey traffic regulations.
