TOPIC – LONG JUMP BASIC SKILLS

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to perform the following skills in long jump –

1. the approach

2. take off

3. flight

4. landing

5. recovery.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can run and jump.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts, take off board, long jump pit, video clip and measuring tape

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – PRACTICE ACTIVITIES 

The long jump can be broken down into five phases. The approach (running up), take off, flight, landing and recovery.

 

DEMONSTRATION OF THE BASIC SKILLS

1. The approach run or run up 

 

 

2. The take off

 

 

3. The flight

 

 

4. The landing

 

 

5. The recovery – This the time required for the repair of damage to the body caused by training or competition.

 

WEEK 2 – LONG JUMP COMPETITION 

Organize the pupils into two or more groups for long jump competition.

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions:

 

2. Demonstrates the skills in long jump;

Pupil’s Activities – Watch and practice the skills.

3. Supervises and corrects demonstration by pupils.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
