PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, most of the pupils should have attained the following objectives (cognitive, affective and psychomotor) and be able to –

1. explain the meaning of long jump.

2. mention basic skills in long jump.

 

ENTRY BEHAVIOR

The pupils can run and jump.

 

INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS

The teacher will teach the lesson with the aid of charts, take off board, long jump pit, video clip and measuring tape

 

METHOD OF TEACHING

Choose a suitable and appropriate methods for the lessons.

Note – Irrespective of choosing methods of teaching, always introduce an activities that will arouse pupil’s interest or lead them to the lessons.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

LESSON 1 – INTRODUCTION 

Long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a take off point.

 

BASIC SKILLS IN LONG JUMP

The long jump can be broken down into four which also known a the basic skills.

1. The approach run

 

2. Take off

3. Flight

4. Landing

5. Recovery

 

LESSON 2 – CONTINUATION OF LONG JUMP BASIC SKILLS 

1. THE APPROACH run

The approach run is also known as run up. It is the distance that prepared the jumper for take off.

 

 2. THE TAKE OFF 

The take off is the upward and forward movement jump into the air with take off foot hitting the takeoff board.

 

3. FLIGHT

The flight is the action that took place in the air after take off.

4. LANDING 

The landing is the arrival at the landing pit.

 

5. RECOVERY

 

PRESENTATION

To deliver the lesson, the teacher adopts the following steps:

1. To introduce the lesson, the teacher revises the previous lesson. Based on this, he/she asks the pupils some questions;

2. Discuss and explain the meaning of long jump.

 

Pupil’s Activities – Participate actively and explain the meaning of long jump.

3. Lists and explain the long jump basic skills.

Pupil’s Activities – State the basic skills of long jump.

4. Summarizes the key points on the board.

Pupil’s Activities – Copy as the teacher writes.

 

CONCLUSION

To conclude the lesson for the week, the teacher revises the entire lesson and links it to the following week’s lesson.
