WEEK 11 – INTRODUCTION TO FOUR CARDINAL POINTS

The four cardinal points are the main directions used for finding location, direction, or movement on the Earth or a map. They help us know which way to go.

North

West ⇐–¦–⇒ East

South

The four cardinal points are:

1. North (N) – Points to the top of the map or towards the North Pole.

2. South (S) – Points to the bottom of the map or towards the South Pole.

3. East (E) – Points to the right side of the map; where the sun rises.

4. West (W) – Points to the left side of the map; where the sun sets.

 

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE FOUR CARDINAL POINTS

1. It helps in finding direction – For example, knowing which way is north helps you find your location.

2. It helps in map reading and navigation – Farmers, travelers, and sailors use it to move from one place to another.

3. It helps in giving and understanding instructions – Such as “Go north to reach the school.”

4. It is important in construction and planning – Buildings, roads, and farms are planned according to direction.

5. It helps in locating places – Knowing directions makes it easier to find towns, rivers, or landmarks.

 

Simple way to remember:
