CONTENT OF THE LESSON
INTRODUCTION
Reporting incidents means giving a clear and correct account of something that has happened. It is a way of telling others what you saw, heard, or experienced.
FEATURES OF REPORTING INCIDENTS
A good report should include:
1. Title of the incident
2. Date and time
3. Place where it happened
4. What happened (events in order)
5. People involved
6. Cause of the incident (if known)
7. Result or effect of the incident
8. Conclusion or lesson learned
EXAMPLES OF A REPORTED INCIDENT
1. A Road Accident Near My School
On Monday morning, a road accident occurred near my school gate. It happened around 7:30 a.m. when pupils were going to school.
A bus was moving very fast when it suddenly hit a motorcycle. The motorcyclist fell down and was injured. People around quickly rushed to help the victim and called for an ambulance.
The injured man was taken to the hospital for treatment. The police also arrived at the scene to control traffic and investigate the cause of the accident.
The incident caused fear among pupils, and everyone learned the importance of careful driving and obeying traffic rules.
2. A Fire Outbreak in My Neighbourhood
On Friday evening, a fire outbreak occurred in my neighbourhood. The incident happened at about 6:00 p.m. in a small provision shop near the main road.
The fire started as a result of an electrical fault. It quickly spread to other parts of the shop because there were many flammable materials inside. People nearby shouted for help and tried to control the fire using buckets of water.
Shortly after, the fire service arrived and succeeded in putting out the fire. The owner of the shop lost many goods, but no life was lost in the incident.
The incident caused fear among residents, and it taught everyone the importance of safety and careful use of electricity.
3. A Robbery and Street Fight in My Neighbourhood
On Saturday evening, a serious incident of robbery and street fighting occurred in my neighbourhood. The incident happened at about 7:00 p.m. near the main junction.
Two unknown men suddenly attacked a shop owner and robbed him of his money and mobile phone. As the robbers tried to escape, a group of street fighters in the area began to fight among themselves, causing confusion and panic.
People in the area shouted for help while others quickly called the police. The street fight made it difficult for people to catch the robbers immediately. However, the police arrived shortly after and restored order in the area.
One of the robbers was later arrested while others escaped. Some people sustained minor injuries during the confusion. The incident caused fear among residents.
The event taught everyone the importance of security and the need to avoid street fighting and violence in the community.
4. A Case of Jungle Justice in My Neighbourhood
On Tuesday evening, I witnessed a case of jungle justice in my neighbourhood. The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. near the market area.
A young man was accused of stealing a mobile phone from a passer-by. Instead of handing him over to the police, some angry people in the area began to beat him. The crowd became uncontrollable, and the situation turned violent.
Some good citizens tried to stop the crowd and called the police immediately. After a few minutes, the police arrived at the scene and rescued the young man from further harm.
The victim was taken to the hospital for treatment, while some people were questioned by the police. The incident caused fear and confusion among residents.
The event taught everyone the importance of obeying the law and always reporting offenders to the proper authorities instead of taking the law into our own hands.
