By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

 

1. define reproductive health.

2. identify male and female reproductive organs.

3. explain the relationship between adequate nutrition and reproductive health.

4. explain the meaning of dietary deficiency diseases.

5. discuss the signs, symptoms and causes of dietary deficiency diseases.

 

CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

1. Definition of reproductive health

2. Identification of male and female organs

 

3. The relationship between nutrition and reproductive health

4. Dietary deficiency diseases, e.g. kwashiorkor, obesity, marasmus, etc.

5. Signs, symptoms and causes of dietary deficiency diseases

TEACHER’S ACTIVITIES

The teacher,

1. Leads the discussion on reproductive health.

2. Explains the male and female reproductive organs and the relationship between nutrition and reproductive health.

3. Discusses the dietary deficiency diseases including signs, symptoms and causes/cure.

1. Participate in the discussion.

2. Point at the parts on the charts.

3. Describe the pictures on display.

 

LESSON EVALUATION

Students to,

A chart showing a summary of digestive processes with the enzyme functions (reactions).

 

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1. explain the meaning of digestion.

2. define simple metabolic terms.

3. describe the digestive processes of each nutrient in the mouth and oesophagus.

4. describe the digestive processes of each nutrient in the stomach and intestine.

5. discuss different enzymes in relation to the different nutrients.

6. explain the role of water and roughages in the digestive process.

 

CONTENTS OF THE LESSON

FOCUS LESSONS 

1. Meaning of digestion

2. Definition of simple metabolic terms e.g. enzymes absorption

 

3. Digestion and absorption of nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, etc.) in the mouth and oesophagus

4. Digestion and absorption of nutrients (carbohydrates, proteins, etc) in the stomach and intestines

5. Functions of enzymes e.g. ptyalin, amylase, trypsin, maltase, etc.

6. The role of water in digestion and absorption

2. list two enzymes each that act on carbohydrates, proteins, fats and oils (lipids) in the mouth, oesophagus, stomach and intestine.

3. give two functions of water in digestion and absorption.
