WEEK 1 – REVISION OF FIRST TERM WORK

WHAT IS PERSONAL SECURITY

Personal security means keeping yourself safe from danger, harm, or injury at home, in school, on the road, and in the community.

 

REASONS WHY WE NEED PERSONAL SECURITY

We need personal security to:

1. Protect our lives and property

2. Avoid accidents and injuries

3. Stay safe from bad people

4. Live in peace and confidence

5. Know what to do during emergencies

 

ADULTS WE CAN REACH OUT TO IN TIME OF PROBLEMS

Children should seek help from trusted adults such as:

1. Parents or guardians

2. Teachers

3. School head teacher

4. Religious leaders (Pastor, Imam)

5. Police officers

6. Neighbours or community leaders

 

TYPES OF PERSONAL SECURITY

Examples include:

1. Home security – locking doors and windows

2.  School security – following school rules

3. Road safety – using zebra crossing

4. Health security – avoiding dangerous objects

5. Online safety – not talking to strangers online

 

IMPORTANCE OF PERSONAL SECURITY

Personal security is important because it:

1. Keeps us alive and healthy

2. Helps us avoid danger

3. Teaches us to be careful and alert

4. Protects our rights and freedom

 

PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES ON PERSONAL SECURITY

To stay safe, we should:

1. Avoid talking to strangers

2. Not accept gifts from strangers

3. Walk in groups when possible

4. Obey traffic and safety rules

5. Report strange or suspicious actions

6. Know emergency phone numbers

 

MEANING OF SECURITY POLICIES

Security policies are rules and guidelines made to help people stay safe at home, school, and in the community.

 

EXAMPLES OF SECURITY POLICIES

1. School rules against fighting

2. Rules on visitor identification

3. Community curfew rules

4. Safety rules in public places

 

SECURITY AGENTS

Security agents are people whose job is to protect lives and property and help keep peace and order in the society. They help people during emergencies and danger.

 

PERSONNEL TO CONTACT DURING EMERGENCY

They include:

1. Police

2. Civil Defence (NSCDC)

3. Road Safety Officers (FRSC)

4. Fire Service

5. Neighbourhood security groups

 

EMERGENCY PHONE NUMBERS (NIGERIA)

An emergency phone number is a special number we call to get quick help during danger or emergency situations such as accidents, fire, robbery, or sickness.

Examples of Emergency Phone Numbers in Nigeria are, 

1. 112 – National Emergency Number

2. 767 – Lagos Emergency Line

3. Police Emergency – 112

 

MEANING OF DANGER

Danger means a situation that can cause harm, injury, or death.

 

HOW TO ACT PROPERLY IN THE FACE OF DANGERS

When there is danger:

1. Stay calm

2. Run to a safe place

3. Shout for help

4. Call an adult or security agent

5. Do not panic
