ENTRY BEHAVIOUR

Pupils have previously learned about Colour in Our Environment: Meaning, Types, Sources and Uses of Colours, Colour Wheel, and Painting. They have also learned about Nigerian musical instruments and basic movements in dance.

This lesson builds on that knowledge by introducing pupils to songs and music with Nigerian identity, Nigerian music composers, their contributions, and the process of music composition.

CONTENT OF THE LESSON

INTRODUCTION

Nigeria is blessed with many talented musicians and composers who create songs that promote our culture, traditions, languages, peace, and unity. Many of these songs are sung in schools, churches, communities, and during national celebrations. The people who write and arrange these songs are called music composers.

In this lesson, pupils will learn the meaning of songs and music with Nigerian identity, identify Nigerian music composers, explain their contributions, and understand the meaning and process of music composition.

LESSON 1 – MEANING OF SONGS AND MUSIC WITH NIGERIAN IDENTITY

Songs and music with Nigerian identity are songs and musical works that reflect the culture, traditions, languages, values, and way of life of the Nigerian people. They promote Nigeria’s cultural heritage and national unity.

MEANING OF A MUSIC COMPOSERS

A music composer is a person who creates or writes songs and music by arranging lyrics, melodies, rhythms, and musical notes.

SUMMARY
